Burnet Indonesia was established in 2002 by the Macfarlane Burnet Institute for Medical Research and Public Health of Melbourne, Australia (Burnet Institute). Burnet Indonesia aims to improve the health and well being of vulnerable individuals and communities in Indonesia by developing and implementing programs based on needs identified in partnership with local organizations (NGOs, private sector, government, and universities) . The Burnet Institute is an internationally recognized medical research and public health agency investigating and responding to some of today's most serious viral infections such as HIV, hepatitis and measles. The Burnet Institute is a not-for-profit organization, accredited by the Australian Agency for International Development as a non-government organization (NGO), and a UNAIDS Collaborating Partner. Globally, the Institute undertakes a diverse range of activities in the field of public health and international development with other international agencies, government agencies, and NGOs. Our "Building a Comprehensive HIV Response in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province" is a three-year program (2006-2009) the long-term goal of which is "to reduce community vulnerability to, and the impact of, HIV and AIDS in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province, Indonesia". The program in NTB aims to build capacity of local organisations to work with groups that are particularly vulnerable to HIV both in terms of incidence and impact. The vulnerable groups include sex workers and their clients, migrant workers, men who have sex with men and transvestites, and injecting drug users. Local organisations will be assisted to increase their emphasis on empowerment of the vulnerable in recognition of the need for individuals and groups to develop the personal resources and willingness to change behaviours associated with risk of HIV through training, mentoring and support through networking activities. These will emphasise management, planning, and knowledge and skills necessary to respond to HIV. Local organisations from Bali already working in the HIV area with vulnerable groups will play an important role in mentoring and demonstrating to NTB organisatons how they may integrate HIV mitigation initiatives with their current programs.The program will have a strong emphasis on developing partnerships and networks between local NGOs, Provincial AIDS Commission, individuals from government and other organisations which will focus on HIV prevention, care and support initiatives. The Project Manager will be based in Mataram, Lombok. S/He will focus on overall strategy, program planning, and liaison with government, and Burnet Indonesia, and will also operate at a more applied-level focusing on direct capacity building with individual partners. Burnet Indonesia particularly invites applications from people from or living in NTB.SELECTION CRITERIA-Post-graduate qualifications and 5 years relevant experience or Bachelors degree and 7 years relevant work experience.-Experience in HIV prevention, care and support programs and/or drug use issues-Proven experience in organisational capacity development, and program coordination and management are essential-Proven and demonstrable training and facilitation skills-Familiarity and competence in utilising participatory and skills-building training methodologies -Experience working with an international NGO -Excellent skills in written and spoken English and the capacity to communicate often complex and sensitive issues to a wide audience-Strong computer skills for word processing and email communication-Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for colleagues -Willing to spend a significant amount of time in the field-Proven problem-solving and negotiation skills-Ability to meet critical deadlines
